These majestic birds are thankfully a common sight on Koh Chang, either circling gracefully in the jungle thermals or swooping down to grab huge fish out of the sea. You’ll often see them in mating pairs. The female is slightly larger than the male and her wingspan can reach 2.2 metres. With a body-weight of up to 4.5 kilogrammes this is a one of Koh Chang’s biggest and most photogenic birds.

The Pacific Reef Heron is a large waterbird with a wingspan of around a metre. It exists in two colours, white and grey (or light morph and dark morph if you’re being technical).

You will see the Common Mynah, also known as the Indian Mynah, all over Koh Chang and Thailand. It is an opportunistic omnivore that seems unphased by human company and is hence a common sight wherever there are people and food to scavenge.

The Brahminy Kite is a large and attractively coloured brown and white bird of prey. It is mainly a scavenger that feeds on dead fish and crabs but they also hunt live prey such as bats and small mammals.

The yellow-vented bulbul is a member or the passerine family of birds that is native to Southeast asia. It builds a fragile nest from all kinds of plant that it can find and lays between two and five eggs in it.
